Bluetooth / Aux - What do I have to work with?
Hi everybody,
I've got a 2010 E60 that recently got the SOS malfunction and bluetooth stopped working.
I've read all the threads on the issue. I thought i had a MULF2, and know I don't have satellite, so thought a MULF2 from Ebay would be the route, rather than the optic loop that would bypass satellite that's not there.
The Aux was working great (BT adapter for phone audio) and the integrated phone worked well too.
The stereo still works fine.
Don't care about SOS.
Today opened the side trunk, and think I've got a TCU1.5 (according to the label). I don't know what the small box is next to the TCU and don't know what the Harmon/Becker device is.
So, short question is: Is one of the devices THE thing that I need to replace to enable Bluetooth for the phone, and aux to power the USB and accept my adapter so I can listen to audio from my phone?
Thanks very much!
TCU - NOT Mulf2

You need to replace the TCU. You always remove and match numbers on module before buying. Once replaced everything should be working. You will need to program and code to get the VIN correct for Bluetooth

Thanks Sean. So do a like for like swap of the TCU 1.5, and don't bother going to a MULF2?
For curioosity's sake, what's the small unlabeled box?
Lastly, I read that you don't necessarily need to code the TCU if you don't care what the BMW shows up as on your phone. Is that correct?

As stated previously the TCU will work when installed. You will need to program the VIN to match for Bluetooth. That's up to you how you want to do it.

Took a while to find the exact HW and SW model of the TCU 1.5, but it was replaced yesterday, with exact same symptoms.
After doing the swap, swapped back to original, hoping it was a loose cable, with same symptoms.
Thought to check the fuse (#37) and found that fuse is intact.
What else is on the diagnostics checklist?
