My Ride: '08 550i, carbon black, sport package
I have been reading this forum for quite a while and read several old posts regarding this subject.
I wanted to see if anyone had any new info on improving the sound quality.
My problem is that the mic sounds overampliefied. Even with the air off, driving at low speeds and speaking softly, the quality is pretty poor. It really picks up a lot of background noise. If the car is stationary the sound is much better.
Has anyone had anything done to lower the amplification?
Thanks.

What year (or production month/year) is your car? As you probably read in the older threads, BMW came out with a new microphone part that they used after customers complained about sound quality issues. People I talked to always complained that they heard themselves (echo) and I ended up getting a new microphone.
It helped a bit but once in a while I still get a complaint or two.
For me, the CPT9000 is pretty buggy -- I'm still debating on whether or not I should scrap it and go BT or bite the bullet and use it until my lease is up. My main phone is BT and I keep it on my belt so the CPT9000 is more or less a second phone that I use when I'm in the car. I like the fact that it's always there and I like the cradle for charging and using the external antenna. I'm just really tired of all the dropped calls (TDMA) and sync issues that happen way too often...

my 545 is an 11/03 build. It had nav prep so there was a voice command button next to the idrive menu button. The mic worked with assist. I had the tcu replaced and then got bluetooth. So far I am disappointed with the sound quality. I am not sure it is worth the cost.

Dealer tried a new mic today. There is still a tremendous amount of road noice while driving above 30mph.
Still seems very over amplified.
Is this normal for the rest of you? Do your callers say the sound quality is poor if you are talking to them while driving on the freeway?

I also experience the problem as Boxsterfeet, whomever I call tells me there an echo of themself. I hear them all just fine, nice and clear.
