My Ride: OLD RIDE- 2004 Titanium Silver Metallic 545I, Sports Package, 6 Speed Manual Transmission, Premium Sound, Cold Weather Package, Folding Rear Seats.
NEW RIDE- 2005 Silver Gray Metallic 545I, Sports package, 6 Speed manual Transmission, Premium Sound, Navigation, Cold Weather Package, Folding Rear Seats, Heated Rear Seats and Park Distance Control.
Just came back from the dealer (Fairfax BMW of Virginia), I had dropped in to complain/inquire about:
1- The sunroof that will only operate with the ignition in position 2 or the engin3 running (to be fixed).
2- A driver side floor mat which is totally worn after less than 4 months of use (to be replaced).
3- RDS data that is only active with one key but not the other (to be reprogrammed for $58.00).
4- Automatic headlights that come on too early and stay on too late (to be reprogrammed for the same $58.00).
4- Retrofitting NAV (to be done 11/30) and activating Bluetooth. The service rep tells me that by activating Bluetooth, I will be losing SOS (cost around $1800.00 with a 15% discount on parts only for BMW CCA members).
5- Finally, I would appreciate some input as to what does BMW mean by "seat, mirror, steering wheel memory". My understanding is that once I adjust these, then every time that specific key is used to unlock the door, the seat etc should return to the programmed setting even if moved by another driver.
Again, appreciate your input.

My Ride: 2004 530i - Cold Weather Package, Premium Package, Premium Sound, Steptronic, Comfort Seats, PDC, Xenon, Electric Sunshade
Hi,
From other posts on the forum, people who have had Bluetooth enabled did not loose their ability to use BMW Assist (SOS). It does require a software upgrade to version 13.2 or higher. I am having mine done next week and the cost is supposed to be around $599 which was the cost for the original option (before BMW pulled it). They will check your VIN number to make sure that it can be done.
Is the $1800 the cost for the NAV retrofit?
As far as the key, hope this helps;
When your vehicle is unlocked with the
remote control, the vehicle recognizes the
individual user by means of a data
exchange with the key, and makes adjustments
accordingly.
Examples of Key Memory functions
> Automatic adjustment of the electric
driver's seat
> Locking the vehicle after moving off
> When unlocking with the remote control,
either unlock only the driver's door
or the entire vehicle
> Activating optical warning for Park Distance
Control PDC
> Setting the volume.
Seat, mirror and steering
wheel memory*
You can store and select two different
adjustment settings for the driver's seat,
exterior mirrors and steering wheel.
The adjustment of the lumbar support is not
stored in the memory.
Storing
1. Turn the ignition key to position 1 or 2
2. Set the desired seat, exterior mirror and
steering-wheel positions
3. Press the MEMORY button:
The indicator lamp in the button lights
up
4. Press the desired memory button 1
or 2:
The indicator lamp goes out.
Calling up a stored setting
Do not call up a position from the
memory while the vehicle is moving.
Otherwise there is a risk of accident from
unexpected movement of the seat or steering
wheel.<
Convenience mode
1. Open the driver's door after unlocking
or turn the ignition key to position 1
2. Briefly press the desired memory button
1 or 2.
The system immediately cancels the
adjustment procedure when you press
one of the seat adjustment buttons or
use one of the memory buttons.
When the respective last driver's seat,
exterior mirror and steering-wheel position
is called up can be set for each key.
Control Center, for principle details, refer to
page 16:
1. Open the menu
2. Select "Vehicle settings" and press the
controller
3. Select "Door locks" and press the controller
4. Select "Central locking" and press the
controller
5. Select "Last seat position" and press
the controller
6. Select "After unlocking" or "After door
is opened" and press the controller.
displays the selected setting.
When using this Key Memory feature,
always make sure that the footwell
behind the driver's seat is empty and unobstructed.
If you fail to do so, any persons or
objects behind the seat could be injured or
damaged by a rearward movement of the
seat.
Safety feature
1. Close the driver's door and turn the
ignition key to position 0 or 2
2. Press the desired memory button 1 or 2
and maintain pressure until the adjustment
process has been completed.
If the MEMORY button is pressed accidentally:
Press the button a second time, the indicator
lamp goes out.

1- The sunroof that will only operate with the ignition in position 2 or the engin3 running (to be fixed).
I think this normal
2- A driver side floor mat which is totally worn after less than 4 months of use (to be replaced).
3- RDS data that is only active with one key but not the other (to be reprogrammed for $58.00).
Do not pay them for this. It will go away after the software upgrade with NAV
4- Automatic headlights that come on too early and stay on too late (to be reprogrammed for the same $58.00).
Again. Do not pay them. This is a sensitivity adjustment when upgrading your software.
4- Retrofitting NAV (to be done 11/30) and activating Bluetooth. The service rep tells me that by activating Bluetooth, I will be losing SOS (cost around $1800.00 with a 15% discount on parts only for BMW CCA members).
Ouch. But thats what NAV costs. This is all you should be paying them for
5- Finally, I would appreciate some input as to what does BMW mean by "seat, mirror, steering wheel memory". My understanding is that once I adjust these, then every time that specific key is used to unlock the door, the seat etc should return to the programmed setting even if moved by another driver.
Again, appreciate your input.
My experience is that the seats do not adjust automatically. In effect you have 4 adjustments 2 for each key that are operated by pushing the buttons
