Does anyone know if a navigation unit from a 2005 545i will work in my 2004 545i and if so
do i have to take it to the dealer to install and program?

Are you asking about he DVD drive for the navigation or the actual CCC for the navigation?

There is a thread on DIY about CCC navigation retrofit, most of info you need should be there. Initially e60 came prewired for nav upgrade, I dont know the cutoff date.
