My Ride: 2004 525i - Sport & Premium Package, Xenon, Alpine White w/Tan.
Had my 525i in for service last week and spoke to the SA about activating the Bluetooth, they charged $304.00. It works perfectly with my Verizon Blackberry 8830, pairing was simple and my entire contact list (350+) sync'd with the system even though it is not on the BMW list of phones.
I drive a lot for business and this makes talking while driving much safer and having a conversation more enjoyable.

No new TCU for $304! A new TCU costs more like $1,200 for the part alone. Clearly his car had the proper TCU to allow a software upgrade to activate the BT... Starting with most cars built in March 2004, a software update is all that is needed. There is a transition period where some March 2004 built cars still got the old TCU but anything built after March should be OK...

Hello, what is the build date of your car? Did you require a new TCU?
Im in Los Angeles, what dealer performed the upgrade?

I had the exact same thing (CIP upgrade for late-build '04 525 to activate BlueTooth) done last week. And I also have the BlackBerry 8830. AMAZING! Can't believe I lived without this since I bought the car! The people I've telephoned from the car say the in-car mic sounds, "Great!" (Now if I can just figure out whether or not to buy the forum-recommended ProClip console mount for my BB, or simply just Velcro the darn thing somewhere on the center console...)

This BT seems to be not so simple..
My car was born in 3/04 definitely "real 04" model, because of partikel filter etc. The service installed a week ago the latest CIP. Version 28, I think. Anyway, the iDrive button in display looks like in the facelift models.
I can pair my phone, but that's it. So, the TCU might be the problem, but how to make it sure the porblem is there?
An other question: I have factory BMW professional phone in my car and they talked in service that I should disconect it? What this actually mean? Removing it from BT list didn't help.
My phone is nokia E70, pairing ok, I know it should not transfer the phonebook, but it should work in otherwise.
