I'll be the first to ask when these engines filter down the 5? Especially the 231PS 3.0d

I doubt it - the 535d fills the 'slot'. I'm surprised there isn't a 735d though...

Only difference is it has the sports steering wheel ( that was available before) and 3 more buttons on the dash.

Otherwise it is identical to pre-facelift

Rumor is that 530d will get more hp spring/summer. Maybe same time when new petrol engines come out.

IMO the rear and the steering wheel just don't cut it. Otherwise its a nicer looking car.

My Ride: #1: 2004 545i; 6-speed manual; Sport Package; Mystic Blue with a gray leather interior and Anthracite wood; CWP; Logic 7. #2: 2010 535xi Touring; Automatic.

I actually think the front looks too sedate, too common. I seem to recall them wanting a higher, flatter grill for pedestrian safety; but the front end is kind of bland. I would have done something to make the grill bolder, either wider total or perhaps fewer, but wider, chromed vertical vanes. The lights are boring. BMW shouldn't admit the previous 7 was too Bangled by toning it down. They should have done something more edgy with either the front, or the door panels, or at least put in some cool fixed glass roof or something.

It's an awesome car, but I would have thought they would want something distinctive / controversial to give the BMW diehards something to argue about. The reference to an Avalon is unkind, but it's true that if it just gets more conventional on all surfaces, it will start looking like a Lexus.
