What do you guys think?
Such a quick turnaround in design orientation especially for a big ticket sedan like the E65 is quite... alarming. Makes you wonder if they are planning to soften the looks of the 545 when it is rebirthed as the 550...

Actually it's also making me wonder if the controversial 745 will be a collector's relic in 50 years... I can see the museum plaque now... "Bangle's Folly"

edit: oops.. double posted the pic in the message... corrected now.

It does harken back to E39, but that is not surprising given their stated intent to 'un-do' some of the changes that were made. At least I think that that's what's been stated -- more of an intent to un-do than to once again re-do.

It is a very mild redesign and the average person would have to see the old car next to the new to spot any differences. THe headlights are subtley reshaped as is the front bumper and they have made a modest change to the shape of the bonnet (hood).

I don't think you would compare it as being close to the E39 if you saw the two cars sitting side by side, the styling is just too different.

SinisterJ, I am with you. I thought the original design was audacious, original, and in-your-face. The new softened design is disappointing.

BTW, thanks for including your wife's photo in your sig.

A car like the 7-series should not be 'in your face'. It IS a conservative car, that is and always has been its identity. The new makeover is fantastic, it restores the 7 to exactly what it should be.

I agree, the new 7 touchups are very nice and makes the car more sleek and subtle. I like the pre-modification 7, but the re-touched seven must be seen in person to really appreciate how a few subtle changes really "completed" the look of this car.

As far as the 5, BMW has never really "retouched" the 5 have they? I know they have made some very, very subtle changes (E39 angel eyes and such), but nothing as big as what they just did to the 7 huh?
