The press release for the final model year run on the E65 7 series is out today ... with no interesting news.
No twin-turbo engine. No aggressive sports package. It doesn't even get the fantastic new sports automatic transmission. This may be an indication of what to expect during the final model years for the E60 ... nothing special post LCI.
It looks like BMW is willing to let the old girl waddle off into the sunset without much effort at a final push.
These 3 new Individual paints look promising though:
The paintwork.
In line with the understatement embodied in BMW design language, the experts at BMW Individual always try to harmonize each customer's wishes with the BMW philosophy. The individual paintwork is more than a color: It captivates its customers through its unique brilliance and sophisticated iridescent effects. Fine pigmentation in the Xirallic paint creates subtle nuances that change with the shifting light, giving the surface a new dimension and depth.
With the 2008 7 Series, two variations point up the intrinsic excitement of the color black: Azurite Black metallic and Ruby Black metallic. The elegant, light shades of Moonstone have their own appeal, particularly for buyers in sunny regions: under blue skies, this paint finish shines with a special glamour.

My Ride: E46 330, E60 550 on order: Carbon Black/Natural Brown, 6MT.
Not a shock at all. All their engineering effort is going into the new model. To make changes to the existing model, they would need to bring in contract engineers. Furthermore, available testing facilities would be booked as well, so they would have to go outside for this, too.
They would never recover the investment through increased sales. Even if they did, it would rob sales from the new model.

My Ride: 2011, X6 Hybrid . Alpine White , every option. 20" Conti' NON runflats,OEM trunk spoiler , LUX V3 AE's , HP Thunder Fogs , custom front bumper reflector delete........
I think they have been winding down inventory for a while and probably have a pretty good idea of the run out so they get a really good launch for the new 7 . This was not a great car for BMW . They are really going to a job on the new one to get back all the lost franchise that left to go to Lexus and MB.

I also believe this is a clear indication that there won't be a twin-turbo V8 in the E60. The bigger engines generally filter down for the 7-series, as occurred in 2003 when the 745 came out. The E39 remained in the 540, which was the older engine configuration.
