Hi everyone-
I have an 07' 650i and removed and replaced the first silencer (behind the headers where the exhaust tubes join for the first time) with straight tubes (left second one in) and I must say the car sounds "tastefully awesome". My buddies spent allot more money on their supersprint and remus systems and I must say I cannot tell the difference after doing the mod nor can they. Cost me $80 to weld in straight tubes. No check engine light or fault code. Having come from a Porsche 911 and seeing all the overpriced exhaust systems for my 996 I thought I'd share my money saving tip for fellow board members.

Best

Can you post a video with the sound?

Also, who did the work for you? I have the same car and live outside of Boston. Perhaps I can have the same shop do the work on my car if your happy with the resuts. I'm very nervous about taking it to anyone outside of BMW.

there has been a comprehensive thread going on in the past on this forum (>2 years ago) about this mod and the conclusion was removing the first resonator on a V8 added drone to the interior. Many went back and had it installed again...Don't you get any resonance when cruising on the highway ?

interested to hear..

I've removed all three resonators. I won't say there isn't any droning, maybe a little bit between 2K rpm - 3K rpm while I'm accelerating. If I'm on cruise-control there is zero drone. The one person who I used as barometer was my g/f. If it didn't bother her then I'm okay. She didn't have any complaints about the interior noise of the cabin at all.

the important component is your x-pipe vt - this slightly offsets what would cause droning in continuous gas flow. If I went this route I would love to go with the catback RD x-pipe and quads. Awesome setup man !

Ah, yes. My x-pipe. I didn't realize how important this part of my exhaust is. What are you waiting for go and get the cat-back RDSport exhaust!

I actually used Lou's custom Exhaust in Danvers. I trust the guy and he did an excellent job. I did save the old silencer just in case I decided to put it back. There is only slightly more growl to the car and I am the conservative type so I would be the first to complain. I'll try and post a clip later this week for everyone. PS attached is a picture with M5 wheels, H&R springs 285/35/19s on rear and 275/30/19s on front.
