The mirrors would act sort of like a curb feeler for other cars. In fact they should have mirrors that extend further to act as a sheild against other cars IMHO.
It's not only narrow streets one has to worry about. My work, private parking space is right at the rear exit door where everyone walks by. I wish my windows would fold up so they don't accidentally hit or scratch my mirrors! Tight garages would also suffice as an excuse for nice folding mirrors
