Who here changes their own oil for their sixer? I'm about to do mine, thinking of using castrol 0w30 instead of 5w30. What do you think?

Also make sure you are using the right castrol oil. The one you want is not made in America. Make sure to read the label and it says it was imported from Germany and has the BMW Long life certification. It's not the same oil as the stuff in the same bottle made in the US. The oild will look exactly the same but it is not a full synthetic that is says it is on the bottle. It is a group III and can't be sold overseas as full synthetic because it's not. There are threads about this. You can also use Mobile 1 0-40 I believe which tests out to the same weight as the German Castrol 0-30.
Here is a great description that still hold true today http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=265292 |
Yeah, I was thinking of using the German Castrol 0w30. It appears to meet BMW's requirment and it is the same weight. I've read good things about it in a couple different threads on bobistheoilguy forums. It appears to protect well. Going to give it a shot this weekend.
Using German Castrol shouldn't effect my warranty correct? |
