Okay, I know, I know, I own a 6. I should just paint the front clip. But this is the first used car I've purchased in a long time and when I bought it, it already had some chips in the front and it didn't have a clear bra. Honest, I'm having it painted in the spring, after the roads have been swept from the gravel they use when it snows for traction. And I'll put on a clear bra. I've already got the quote. In the meantime, the fargin' chips are driving me nuts! They're a lot worse (lots of gravel this year) and I can't tolerate it any longer.

So, I purchased the Dr. Colorchip paint system. In order to be happy with it, it had to meet some key objectives; it had to do the following:
  1. Be easy to use - I'm handy but I'm no Schulrog!
  2. Do a decent job - I'm not expecting as-new paint but it better do a credible job of hiding the road rash.
  3. Be inexpensive - I'm having it painted later this year; I don't want to spend a lot.
  4. Well packaged.
  5. Not messy (kind goes to being easy to use, I guess).

Here are the before pics:

Here are the after pics (first round - I'll go back over it this weekend and buff it out better):

How would I rate it [scale of 1 to 5 - 1 lowest rating, 5 highest (best)]?
  1. Be easy to use - I'll give it a 4. I definitely got better at it as I went along but it takes a bit to get used to the technique.
  2. Do a decent job - Again, I'll give it a 4. It might be a 5 after this weekend, though (round two - I'll report back).
  3. Be inexpensive - This is a 5 - $70-ish (shipped) and it looks a lot better than it did.
  4. Well packaged - This is a 5 - everything you need is included except the acetone (or thinner) to clean the brushes.
  5. Not messy - This is a 4. You're dealing with paint; it's going to be messy but it's easy to clean.

Overall, this is a solid product. Is the repair perfect? Not by a long shot. Is it a lot better than it was? Absolutely. Will it hold me over until this spring? You betcha!

I'll give it a 4.5 out 5 and highly recommend it!

Yeah, but you'll be a lot happier when you paint the bumper.

Damn, that's pretty bad. You must drive behind lots of trucks haha. Actually one time a truck merged in front of me and I was behind him for two seconds and it gave me tons of those.

Your car needs a polish very badly. Would you like me to recommend you a good detailer in the area, or are you into doing it yourself?

Yep. I agree. No sense polishing during this time of year. I'll be doing it myself towards the end of March or the first of April. But if you have someone you can suggest I'm always interested. Thanks.
