I went over to Fields BMW this morning (Northfield, IL) to drive a couple of new BMWs in their Ultimate Drive event to support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
First up - topless 650. What a fantastic car. As a 550i owner, everything was very familiar and it performed as great as expected. Except for the sounds. Delicious. The low rumble at idle and when accelerating up to speed, and the scream when punching it from 60 to 100 mph ... wow. It sounded more like an M car. Why can't the 550 sound like that?
Then I drove a Z4 - soft top again. I was just OK. 360HP spoils you.

Being someone who does not like the typical American V8 sound I am not that crazy about the 645/650 exhaust sound. I have driven my friend's 650i convertible and the sound is nice, but at the same time more like an American V8 muscle car than my 545. I like the 545/550 tone better, even when I used to have the B&B exhaust it did not sound like an American V8.

Was that the Z4 M? What Z4? or you refered to 360bhp from the 650i?
One thing I loved about the Z4 was the paddle shifters with the Steptronic. They made for very very fast shifts, not at all like our E60 shifts in manual mode. If we could have that set-up, I don't know why we would even need SMG.
