I have a 2006 650 coupe. Done 10,000 miles. At 9000 I noticed a clunk from the auto transmission when it was downshifing from 4th to 3rd or was it 3rd to 2nd (was difficult to tell which one it was) anyway dealer did a softwhere upgrade and it was better. However it has developed another problem. When in D mode and crawling in traffic, when you are on and of the throttle at amost walking pace there is a definate clunk from the transmission when you load and offload the throttle. This is annoying to say the least . I have talken it to a dealer and they agree there is a clunk and have emailed BMW to see if they have come across the problem. It is almost as if there is slack in the transmission somewhere and the on and off movement of the throttle causes the clunk. It also does it in steptronic where you hold it in say 2nd and do the same on off on the throttle. Has anyone out there experienced this

regards

Peter

if you can get under the car. rotate the drive shaft back and forth. does the universal joint produce a clunk? the old chrysler were note for doing that.
