My Ride: Fully Loaded Monaco Blue 550i Sport
Why doesn't the 545s/550s sound like the 645s/650s?
I don't want to get an after market exhaust and not be please with it so is there anything i can do to make my 550i sound like the 650s? they have sexiest exhaust notes!

My Ride: 2011, X6 Hybrid . Alpine White , every option. 20" Conti' NON runflats,OEM trunk spoiler , LUX V3 AE's , HP Thunder Fogs , custom front bumper reflector delete........
Same engines but the exhausts have been tuned specifically for what BMW believes each car should sound like. The 08 550s with the MSport Pack have a similar sound to the 650 but slightly more restained ( to my ears anyway ). I would think that your dealer, or cheaper yet a good muffler shop could spec you a similar set up to replicate the sound by simply replacing the mufflers . I am going to do this on my 07 or go full quad but I havent had time to shop it around. If you lease it might be a better choice to stay stock and go with the 08 mufflers .
Good luck

Yes, the two cans with the dual tips coming out can be changed and the sound will be there for you. Or you could just poke a couple of holes in the current ones and voila ! Just kidding !
