Spied! The CAT Creeps In…

Spy-Shots of Cars
At first sight you might think this is just an ordinary prototype of the soon-to-be-released BMW 1-series GT – but take a second look: Judging from the shape of the roof and the layout of the c-pillar and rearmost side window, you are actually looking at what’s to become the Compact Activity Tourer, internally called CAT.

The car will be introduced in 2014 or 2015 and will be part of BMW’s compact class code-named UKL. So far it contains all MINI models plus the standard 1-series – but the class is to grow by various new models like the FAST (Family Activity Sports Tourer; a soft-roader below the X1), the JOY (a two-door below the 1-series), the MINI MAT (Multi Activity Transporter; a sister model to the FAST) – and the CAT pictured here. All cars will be available with front- or all-wheel drive.
