Spy Shots: New 5 Series BMW Caught Testing
BMW is attempting to revolutionize its manufacturing. With so many emissions and fuel regulations currently enacted or coming to fruition, it’s no longer viable to just shrink motors and add turbochargers. Strides must be made to decrease a car’s overall weight. Without that, no automaker stands a chance at continuing to increase fuel economy and make emissions standards.
With that in mind, BMW has thrown millions upon millions of development dollars into the company’s newest modular platform dubbed the 35up. The new platform will allow BMW to rely heavily on the use of structural carbon fiber to make their cars lighter and stronger. The 35up will be used across the BMW platform, starting with the new 7 Series, which debuted earlier this year. Now BMW’s focus has shifted to the upcoming 2017 BMW 5 Series, which will be the second model to utilize the 35up.
As you can see in these first spy shots, Motor Authority caught the upcoming sedan testing out in Europe. Here’s our favorite shots from a mega gallery, which you can see here in its entirety. We can’t wait to see how this car handles with its new chassis.
