Spy Shots: Fancy-Lookin’ FAST Looks Like an X1 on a Fast
BMW has been expanding its model lineup considerably the past couple of years with new models appearing in nearly every segment, and it seems the plug-in hybrid realm will be no different. Allow me to introduce you to BMW’s new “FAST”, which stands for Family Active Sports Tourer.
The FAST is planned to fit into BMW’s lineup somewhere near the existing X1 as another niche crossover-themed vehicle. Sources say it will share the same UKL platform, which is being used in the new MINI and the 2 Series Active Tourer. It’s said to offer MPV flexibility, SAV solidity, while maintaining its visibly sportier touring-like styling.
If you’re hoping to have a conventional engine under the hood, you won’t find it here – the FAST will only be offered as a plug-in hybrid (you can see the charging port on the front fender). It’s looking like the FAST will be entering the US market in late 2015 as part of the 2016 model lineup.
