Would You Pay $235,700 for a BMW i8?
Some dealerships are marking up their BMW i8 stock by as much as $100,000. The i8 starts at $135,700. At that price, it presents a tremendous value. Can the same be said at $235,700? No, however, I contend BMW’s hybrid sports car represents a $175,000 value.
Even though BMW could probably get away with charging 175 Gs for its future-mobile, who the hell do dealerships think they are with these $100,000 markups? That’s legalized extortion.
A fool and his money are soon parted, though. Whoever agrees to burn $100,000 is undeniably a fool. Even Bill Gates would keep 100 grand out of the fiery pits of markup hell.
A survey on WorldCarFans currently tallies the fool count at 8.63 percent, or the percentage of idiots who would pay $100,000 over MSRP for a BMW i8.
