New i3 Showcases the future of BMW Production
It’s safe to say the BMW i3, which has been in production since mid-September, is an acquired taste … you either like it or you hate it. Regardless of how you feel about the BMW electric car, the way it is produced is pretty cool. BMW has released a video of some of the first i3s rolling down the production line where you get to see new-age manufacturing techniques in action, like when the vehicle’s carbon fiber pieces are cut with water.
Despite using water as a cutting tool, BMW’s new production processes actually use 70 percent less water than conventional automotive manufacturing. The company’s new methods also allow the i3 to be built in half the time of other BMWs.
If you hate the fact that BMW builds this car, just remember, this vehicle line is a test bed for newer and better manufacturing techniques that can only improve the BMW M3s, M4s, M5s and M6s of the future.
