Is BMW’s Mad New M5 CS the New Sedan King of the Nürburgring?

Bold, fast and brilliant, the new BMW M5 CS moves the über saloon game on in every respect.

Here’s one we have been pining for weeks — the new full cream BMW M5 CS. We’ve followed the mules around in testing and the Nürburgring, pondered its spec and wondered how it will actually perform. But now here’s the official line on what we reckon will very soon be confirmed as the fastest standard saloon car ever to lap the Green Hell…

They promise BMW M5 CS sprints from rest to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, two-tenths quicker than the Competition. We don’t believe them — BMW M notoriously under claims its cars’ performance — we expect it to dip into the late 2.7 second zone in the real world. For your family runabout? They also say M5 CS is good for 0–125 mph in 10.4 seconds and that top speed is an electronically governed 190 mph. And that it can sip as little as 21.6 mpg when driven nice, too.

The men at M further promise that this exclusive limited-run special-edition machine treats four people to an extraordinary driving experience in a blend of standout performance and unique exclusive luxurious.

Now thirteen up to 627 horses, the 4.4-litre V8 M5 CS is also the most powerful BMW M car ever. CS carries the regular the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and M xDrive all-wheel-drive with its hooligan pure rear-wheel drive 2WD mode over from the regular M5. It also benefits a rigorous 230-pound diet over the BMW M5 Competition.

CS comes with M Carbon ceramic brakes with red or optional gold calipers. It gets re-tuned bearing springs and is further refined damper control. The chassis is adapted to CS’ lower vehicle weight and the increased potential of its standard mixed-size 275/35 R 20 front and rear 285/35 R 20 Pirelli P Zero Corsa track rubber.

You will immediately tell the CS apart — its Laser headlights illuminate yellow instead of white. And when parked you will quickly pick up on the unique M5 CS badges complemented by CS’s 9.5 J x 20 front and 10.5 J x 20 rear 20 inch M forged wheels in Y-spoke wheels, it grille surround, M gills and other facets finished in bold Gold Bronze.

The bonnet, front splitter and rear diffuser, rear spoiler and wing mirror caps; the M Power engine compartment cover and intake silencer are forged from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. Some elements feature exposed carbon fiber and there’s a quad stainless-steel sports exhaust system too.

Strictly a four-seater, the new BMW M5 CS has M Carbon driver and front passenger and individual rear pews. They have black Merino leather covers with fine grain in front and Mugello Red decorative stitching. Illuminated M5 logos nestle in an outline of the legendary Nürburgring circuit on each headrest. Now why would that be? We wait with bated breath!

The M Alcantara steering wheel has a red center marker in another classic racecar touch, while carbon fiber gearshift paddles lurk behind black chrome trimmed spokes. CS gets a fixed lightweight center console, illuminated M5 CS door sill strips and a welcome light
