Commercial Break: Z3 Roadster & The Simpsons

BMW commercial break
This post actually begins with an episode of The Simpsons. On April 26, 1996, Fox aired the episode, “Raging Abe Simpson and His Grumbling Grandson in “The Curse of The Flying Hellfish” ” I have a working theory that someone at BMW was watching that episode.

In the episode, Abe and Bart must outduel Mr. Burns for a set of rare paintings discovered by the two men’s unit in WWII.  In the end, however, the US government catches whim of the activity and returns the paintings to their rightful heir- Baron von Wortzenberger.

Someone at BMW watched as the Baron hopped into his SL Benz and said das glaube ich nicht.

So they found the real life version of the Baron von Wortzenberger, put him in a BMW Z3 roadster, and filmed.  I’m not sure which part is best. The leather pants, the silk shirt, the sweet caress of the hood,  or the cassette deck. They’re all in the running for best in show.

Nothing sounds better than the engine than the engine of a Z3 roadster. So yeah, take that Janis Joplin and Mercedes Benz version of Baron von Wortzenberger.

The joy of driving.
