BMW SUV Falls Three Stories

An errant driver in Los Angeles lost control of their BMW SUV while attempting to park and plummeted three stories.

The last major BMW crash we posted about was the 4 Series that took flight after launching off of a boulder in a traffic circle in suburban Los Angeles. That incident involved a speeding driver under the influence and resulted in multiple damaged cars that had been parked in the flying car’s trajectory. The BMW in question was completely destroyed. Even more surprising than the severity of the accident was the fact that the driver came out of the incident with only an injured ego. And thankfully no bystanders or innocent parties were injured.

Now comes news of another freak accident in Los Angeles. This one is almost as shocking and involves a BMW SUV. Or as BMW themselves would put it, an SAV. The year and specific model of the vehicle involved are unclear. KTLA in Los Angeles has the scoop on the incident, which occurred on Thursday, February 20 at 1:20 P.M. The driver of the SUV was allegedly attempting to park on the third floor of the Beverly Connection at 100 N. La Cienega Blvd in the Beverly Grove neighborhood of Los Angeles. While the driver of the BMW was parking they somehow lost control of their vehicle. The white BMW then ripped through the metal safety cables that are in place for just such an incident. The heavy luxury SUV then plummeted three stories to the ground below. “Somebody said that something horrible had happened,” Beverly Connection shopper Kasia Huart told KTLA. “I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

According to the police the flying BMW landed on the hood of a silver Nissan Juke SUV that had a driver in it at the time. The driver of the Nissan was unharmed, though they were doubtless extremely startled by having a large SUV land unexpectedly on their vehicle. After landing on the unsuspecting Nissan, the BMW rolled onto its roof and then finally came to rest on one of the Beverly Center’s parking garage ramps.

Though the BMW SUV’s driver was hospitalized following the scary incident, amazingly it was reported that they suffered only minor injuries. The driver was taken to nearby Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and is expected to survive.  KTLA spoke with Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Benjamin Zucker about the scary incident. “It was either backing and came straight down, or it was going forward and then flipped on to its roof,” Zucker said, adding that the police would be following up with the driver in the hospital to determine what exactly went wrong. The Beverly Connection didn’t waste any time repairing the damaged cables. By the time the KTLA reporters arrived on the scene and talked to Zucker they had already been repaired. There’s no word on whether the BMW driver still has to pay for the time spent parking at the Beverly Center.
