The new M5, despite incredibly fast and unexpectedly powerful, has run into a bit of a snag coming out of the gate. BMW has issued a recall on more than 1,100 new M5s due to an issue with the engine’s oil pump. Apparently there was a manufacturing issue with the seals that might cause the pump to stop working. Of course, having no oil is bad and could a swift and explosive death to your brand new Beamer.
They’ve gone so far as to stop deliveries and telling owners not to drive the cars. About 417 cars already in customers’ hands with another 269 locked down in dealers inventories. There haven’t been any accidents or injuries yet, luckily.
According to BMW spokesman, Dave Buchko, the parts are in stock and the recall will begin as soon as possible. In the mean time, M5 owners might want to get in touch with their local dealership.
