The all-new BMW i7 xDrive60 recently made its world debut. Here’s what you need toknow about the Bavarian automaker’s flagship sedan

The Bavarian automaker was quick to adopt electric mobility. With its i3 hatchback and i8 sports car, the company was one of the first German automakers to embrace electrification. Recently the brand introduced the first-ever all-electric 7 Series. This is the first time that BMW’s flagship sedan is available in a battery-only variant. The all-new i7 xDrive60 uses BMW eDrive technology.

The BMWIi7 xDrive60 comes loaded with features that include an 8K screen for the rear passengers. BMW aims to become a segment leader in the luxury electric saloon segment with its new electric sedan. Our avid readers might already know BMW is currently the best-selling luxury marquee in the United States.

However, the Californian EV pioneer Tesla is still giving the German automaker some severe competition in the United States and China, which happens to be the world’s largest EV market. Even though BMW’s battery pack can deliver impressive performance, it is no match for the range and performance that Tesla’s battery tech offers.

The BMW i7 xDrive60 gets a dual motor set up with one electric motor on each axle.

The all-electric powertrain churns out 536 HP of maximum power and 500 lb-ft of peak torque. This helps the electric-only luxury sedan accelerate to the 60 MPH mark from a complete standstill in just 4.5 seconds. The Mercedes Benz EQS sedan is i7 xDrive60’s main rival in this segment. The Tri-Star brand’s electric sedan can deliver 350 miles of range with its 107.8 kWh battery pack.

It is also quite impressive that BMW does not use any rare earth materials to power the drivetrain of the all-new i7. Furthermore, the electric sedan gets an adaptive recuperation feature which it shares with the BMW i4 and iX SUV. The prices for the all-new BMW i7 xDrive60 start at $120,295. According to the Bavarian automaker, the all-electric 7 Series luxury sedan can deliver up to 300 miles of driving range. The German car manufacturer is currently accepting orders for the flagship electric sedan, and the deliveries of the i7 will start sometime later this year.
