BMW Confirms M4 Coupe Coming
Come a year and a half from now, the world will have one more M Sports car to choose from. According to Car and Driver, BMW will have an M4 coupe ready for public consumption by then. That’s great, but what does the mean for the M3?

More than likely, it means that both the M3 and M4 will co-exist. It’s hard to see BMW abandoning their most prized nameplate for the sake of nomenclature. What it does mean, is that the M3 will likely be a sedan only. That is a little depressing, but the promise of an M4 more than makes up for it.

Who knows, freeing up the M3 nameplate might be a good thing. The car has grown into something quite different from what the M3s of yore. Today’s car is a heavy, complicated thing. It’s ferociously fast, sure, but it’s not really the same raw experience of the e30. Or the e36 for that matter. Maybe this is a good point for them to go back to the root of what makes an M3 and “M3.”
