BMW Confirms M4 Coupe Coming
More than likely, it means that both the M3 and M4 will co-exist. It’s hard to see BMW abandoning their most prized nameplate for the sake of nomenclature. What it does mean, is that the M3 will likely be a sedan only. That is a little depressing, but the promise of an M4 more than makes up for it.
Who knows, freeing up the M3 nameplate might be a good thing. The car has grown into something quite different from what the M3s of yore. Today’s car is a heavy, complicated thing. It’s ferociously fast, sure, but it’s not really the same raw experience of the e30. Or the e36 for that matter. Maybe this is a good point for them to go back to the root of what makes an M3 and “M3.”
