BMW Reveals 2017 5-Series Touring Wagon

BMW Has Wagon Love for the 2017 5-Series

Hot on the heels of the updated 2017 BMW 5-Series sedan, the engineers in Bavaria added some versatility for the European market. Though we’ll never see it Stateside, forbidden fruit compels us in a way only a wagon can. It’s not much different than the sedan, but the wagon adds a ton of versatility and style.

Everything you’d expect to find on the new 5-Series sedan you can find on the Touring. It has a full suite of safety features, including blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with full stop and start capability, lane keep, and more. Which makes sense, as the company moves towards creating an autonomous vehicle.

Other cool features include the ability to remotely park the Touring wagon. You don’t even have to be inside to park it perfectly in a space. Plus the 360-degree camera can be activated and viewed at any time from a smartphone, anywhere in the world. It’s a great way to check on your car at the airport while on vacation. Or you can see if anyone parked too close because you didn’t use the automatic park and took up two spaces!

The 2.0-Liter 530i Touring makes the sprint to 62 miles-per-hour in a spirited 6.5 seconds. If you upgrade to the 340-horsepower 540i, that time drops to just 5.1 seconds. Folks, that’s fast. There was a time not too long ago that sports cars couldn’t accelerate so quickly. Now you can do it in a non-M BMW. And a wagon at that.

As with all modern BMWs, the 5-Series Touring comes in either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive — which BMW calls xDrive.

And for those Europeans who can purchase this, two different diesel engines are available. The base engine is probably plenty for most, but if you upgrade to the 3.0-liter variant and xDrive, it’ll scoot to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds.

BMW will start taking orders for the new wagon this month. But again, if you live in the United States, you can’t have one.
