BMW 5 Series Dingolfing Edition

75 million won doesn’t sound like a bargain-basement price, but this bidder nabbed a piece of BMW history for just over $65,000. Now that’s a great price!

When automakers hit large milestones, like manufacturing its 1 millionth vehicle, the car is usually destined to be locked away in a temperature-controlled garage, hidden out of sight from the public. But BMW had different plans for its 10 millionth 5-Series.

As BMW outlined in a press release, the automaker’s Korean arm auctioned off its 10 millionth 5-Series sedan, which was a Dingolfing Edition in Seoul Auction, the country’s largest fine art auction company. The occasion, as the automaker pointed out, was the first time a limited edition vehicle was sold at an auction in Korea.

The successful bidder managed to nab the special edition 5-Series for 75 million won. And while that sounds like an insanely high figure, it’s actually a steal. When converting won to USD, 75 million comes out to approximately $64,170 or roughly $5,420 more than the starting price of a 540i.

The Dingolfing Edition is based off of a 520d model, which, unfortunately, isn’t sold in the United States. The model is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 187 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. That’s good enough to propel the sedan to 62 mph in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 146 mph. The 10 millionth vehicle is a little more special with an engraving that reads “10 millionth Edition” on the panel covers and center console.

The winning bidder also got a few extras from BMW, including an extended BMW Service Inclusive plan that covers components and inspections for up to eight years or just short of 100,000 miles for free. The bidder also received a tour of the BMW Welt, BMW Museum, and the Dingolfing Plant in Germany for two, which is worth 10 million won, roughly $8,700. He’ll also get treated to a special car delivery ceremony at the BMW Driving Center in Incheon, Korea.

Still don’t think the guy got a good deal? The 520d that the Dingolfing Edition is based off of goes for approximately $45,000 with taxes in Germany. With all of the goodies tacked on, this bidder definitely scored a piece of BMW history at a great price.
