Default Tire pressure monitoring system

I have a 2006 BMW 530i and the low tire pressure light came on.(All tires were fine). I went by a shop and they said one of my sensors was probably bad, the battery probably went out and to replace all four. I then had a tire separate and looked for the sensor but couldn't find it. Called the BMW dealership and they said the sensor should be on the rim with the valve stem. I ordered a replacement kit of sensors and had all my tires replaced. The mechanic that changed the tires said I didn't need the sensors that they are on the abs. I need help, they put the sensors in anyway and I need to reset the computer. Where are the sensors and what should I do?

What you were told is correct up to the info provided by the tire mechanic. That was wrong, wrong, wrong! The sensors are indeed located on the rim, behind the valve stem. The batteries are only good for 7 years or so, so they were about due for replacement.

You reset the sensors in the iDrive. Push the "i", select Vehicle Settings, push the knob forward, select TPM and then select Reset. The car has to be running and stationary when you do this. Then drive a short distance and they should reset themselves. Let us know if this doesn't work.
