9.5" Wheels Up Front
I just got a new set of wheels for my 2004 E60 sport suspension. I sized them at 8.5" (et20) fronts and 9.5" (et20) in rears. My tires fit perfectly with no rubbing which are 255-35-20 fronts and 285-30-20 rears.
Unfortunately, I'm having some regret. I love the way the rears look and fit with that deep lip. In my opinion, the fronts look shallow without the deep lip. I did some measuring and it appears that a 9.5" wheel will indeed fit up front but I'm concerned about the tires being stretched thus exposing the rim too much.
I'm temped to buy a couple new 9.5" wheels to try it out up front. Has anyone used a 9.5" rim up front using that tire size? If so, any adverse effects? How does it look? Personally, I think I would like the look of deep lipped rims front and rear.
Any suggestions/comments/ideas?
I love this forum!!
Thanks all!
Randy

I'm curious to know what offsets you are running using a 10" wheel up front. Using a 9.5" and a et of 20, the wheel comes VERY close to the side of the strut. It's close but it doesn't hit which I think is the best scenereo when using a wide wheel in front.
Also, does your tire come close to the triangular area where the fender meets the bumper? That looks like it might rub.
Thanks,
Randy

My Ride: 2005 545i
I'm looking to put some factory M5 wheels on my 2005 545i non-sport. What am I looking at with regard to possibly rubbing? Any info appreciated. Rear 20x10 34mm offset. Front 20x9 34mm offset.
What tires would you recommend if I don't like the stretched look? I want as much sidewall as I can get in order to fill the wheel well.
Thanks for your help.

Running 20x10 et15 plus 5mm spacer. With a 235/35 tire but I was going for the stretched looked. Not for everyone though. I'm also on coilovers. There's a guy on here with the same setup as mine on stock sport like you running 245/35 up front on the same 10 w/5mm spacer he says he gets an occasional rub but nothing major. Me on the other hand I'm run free on the fronts.

Im not expert but I dont think you will have a problem running stock 166's on a non sport. Theres plenty of people who make that switch all the time you may even need spacers. The rear of a non m5 (fender wells) is identical to m5. The front fenders are 10mm wider. Which you can adjust for by tire size. I would go with your current reccommended tire sizes of course in 19". If you need to fill the gap go with spacers that way your not stuck switching tires.
No problem... I think a 255 is out of the question for you up front. Doubt it will fit. I would go 245 its limit on paper is a 9.5" wheel. 255 you definitely will be pushing it Im sure you dont want to be switching tires after buyinh a brand new set. I was just there, lol. 245 wouldnt have worked for me because I have just enough room between my tire and my spring perch.

Thanks for the info. These are the wheels I'm looking at. They are off a newer M5 and are 20". I'm not sure of the stock number. Hopefully the pic will come through below. Do you still think they should work?

I went with 20 x 9.5 in back and 20 x 8.5 in front using 285's and 255's respectively. I've been pretty happy with this set up although I'm getting a VERY slight scraping up front from that little triangular part which I never trimmed off yet. It's not enough to worry about plus it doesn't touch all the time.
So far so good using 20's! I've hit some pretty hard bumps in the road and the wheels are still perfect. I have the tires pumped to the max PSI which is 50.
Thanks,
Randy
