I agree but I think that when things get this far down the line, it usually is released pretty much like the show car. The M5 was unveiled the same way -- with a "concept" version that pretty much matched what you can buy now. I think that in general, there are "pure" concept cars which are usually radical, futuristic designs that form the basis of some car years away, and there are "pre-released" concept cars which are usually designs that are almost ready for production in it's current form (with relatively minor changes).

Based on how much PR BMW is throwing out about the X6, I think it is one of those designs that is very close to production...
+1 I agree. Well said.

nice bmw, and rate the hybrid, but the back of that X6 looks ugly, not a car for me for sure.

I actually like the front and back, but the direct side on view looks a little strange from me. With a bit of an angle from the side its ok. Seeing it in real life however will naturally be different again. Either way, that X6 is going to have serious road presence!! Will be interesting to see how big it is in real life and compared to other vehicles on the road...

thanks for all the photos etc Rudy ( -- and I'm glad I'm on broadband )

I think it's pig ugly. Only the 1 series bread van is uglier in their current range. Still, that's just my opinion, I'm sure many others will love it.

You have to see this thing in the flesh, like I have, to truly appreciate how butt-ugly this thing really is. It looks like a bulldog. Also it is neither a coupe as someone earlier mentioned nor the first of its type.
Infiniti/Nissan created this sort of vehicle and actually did it with innovation, taste and proven reliability. I had the opportunity to compare them side by side with the "X6" prototype.

This is more than a typical concept where it may or may not come out.....it's pretty much a done deal and will come out. Also, the real one should be almost identical to this.

I disagree with a lot of you. I think it looks great from all angles. The Nissan/Infiniti "competitors" are not as sleek and in my opinion they look butt-ugly compared to the X6.....especially the Infiniti.

Regarding: Concept X6 Active Hybrid
Sorry for warming-up an old thread, but these pictures (taken at Frankfurt Auto Show 2007) have been sitting in my hard-drive drawer for long time...
I just felt I should share them here, so to avoid new thread I found Rudy's old post.
So, here they come!

So, here they come!

Sat in the X6 at Javits today.
First off I have to say the car is great looking on the outside, just RIGHT.
On the inside its a bit less impressive. The trim level is questionable for a car at this price point the lack of a 5th seat in back is absurd IMHO.
It's definitely a consideration for my next car.
However! They need to stop referring to it as a coupe. Just because MB did it doesn't mean BMW needs to follow suite. The thing has 4 doors. Its NOT a coupe why not just call my wagon a convertible? It has a sunroof after all.

PS
The CS is just sick!! I was really excited to hear from the rep there that the new 7 would be taking most of its design cues from the CS.

Eric, I saw one at New Century on Friday before our meet. I like it a lot. I had seen a black prototype at Big Bear a few months ago with manufacturer plates, but the production car looked a lot better. Of coarse, it helped that it wasn't black as I don't like black cars.
