Default Second Beemer, First Car - 2008 535xi Wagon

After a fair amount of research and searching, I found a 2008 535xi Sport Wagon, considered “Rare” by many, but just what I was looking for…. I think. I’ve lived in Alaska for some 47 years and have a place in the mountains of southern Arizona, so the K.I.S.S. principal has had me driving cars (and motorcycles) that are simple with a minimum of electronic gadgetry whenever possible. However, I’m sick of driving trucks! The road to town is a wonderfully twisty affair that I enjoy on my BMW moto, but dread in my truck so I bought a Honda Accord 5 speed wagon that I loved until I hit a jet-black 2000# pot roast in the middle of the night. Can’t find those Hondas anymore and I think I deserve a step up in luxury, so why not a car that’s fun to drive to the concert and will handle some Saturday morning garage sailing? (“Honey I just love those bar stools and they will just fit in the wagon”). I have it all :~)

Well, maybe not “all”. I don’t know squat about BMWs except they are expensive finicky cars that only rich, indulgent people drive. I’ve done my own maintenance on my cars and earned college money fixing everything foreign except BMWs. Like many of you, if I kept just some of the cars I’ve owned, I could afford to have a full-time mechanic and a 5,000 sq.ft. shop, but I’m still not rich. Indulgent maybe. So… with your indulgence, help and understanding I will delve into the world of BMW and the 266 page owner’s manual.

In advance,… thanks for your help.

Congratulations on your "promotion" and to the forum! If you're handy with a wrench, as you say, you will be way ahead when it comes to fixing your E61. Many on this board will attest that the car is not that difficult to work on with the proper tools and diagnostic software (something called a Carly app... do a search).

We visited your beautiful state on a cruise last year. Have to admit that Bimmers* were rarely seen. You're for sure going to be an anomaly with your wagon! Enjoy your new ride.

* BTW, your bike is a "Beemer", but your car is a "Bimmer". Don't ask me why. (Both pronounced the same.)
