New guy in Az, first BMW with E34 540i
Hey Guys,
I'll be lurking the forums soaking up info. I picked up a '95 540i/6spd non-running and have been doing a resto-mod on the car for the last month. Someone started throwing M badges all over the car, I'll be pulling them as soon as the weather warms up and the Arizona sun can melt some of the adhesive.
The reason why it would crank/no fire was because a PO installed the harmonic dampener/ crank tone ring clocked wrong. When I pulled off the dampener it was 90 degrees off, but there was evidence that someone mounted it 180 off at one point in time too. Now it fires up easy, idles smooth and revs easy.
So far I've replaced/changed/modded:
new NGK plugs
484 to 404 DME and bypass EWSII.
Dinan chip, with plans for a WAR chip
340lph fuel pump
Bosch II four hole injectors
early M60B40 intake manifold with velocity stacks
M62 throttlebody
Electric fans
IAC block off
home made 3.5" intake tubing and 12" cone filter.
Right now I've got the engine oil pan off and found loose oil pump bolts/nuts. I'm torquing them up with loctite, get the pan on and fill her up with Mobil 1 0w-40. Also currently fixing power steering leaks.
Future plans include re-chroming the 18" M-parallel rims, 235/40-18" & 265/35-18 tires, lowering coils, fixing the seat twist, custom made exhaust and then driving the wheels off of it.
Cheers -Mykk
