I live in Toronto, ON and need to buy a car this week. I'm thinking about buying a used 5 series and am finding good deals in my area with mileage under 80k km for 2012/2013 models. My concern is the maintenance for these German luxury sedans. From this forum, I'm gathering that you guys are pretty handy and know how to fix your cars without the help of BMW mechanics. I'm someone who does not know how to do that. So my question is:


a) What kind of common maintenance issues will I come across? How can I learn to do some basic maintenance? What tools? laptop? Cost?


b)How costly can the same common maintenance be if done from BMW? How can you buy a warranty and how much does it cost?


I'm willing to put in the work for this car. But definitely need the guidance from the vets on this forum. Guide away!
