My Ride: 525i Sport. Mystic Blue. Logic 7, 6 CD Changer, Floormats. Just call me the last of the big spenders!!
Thumbs up

Hi all

This is my first post. Just ordered myself a E60 525i Sport. Mystic Blue, Logic 7 stereo, and floor mats (Just call me the last of the big spenders - lol!).

I love driving (changing gears and all that good good stuffs), hence no auto gearbox or other options that I couldn't personally justify or afford.

Picking it up in Nov.

Questions about the wheels.

The car comes with 18x8 135M wheels front and rear. Now, the very popular and pretty style 124 Wheels are 18x8 front and 18x9 rear. Does that extra inch on the rears add to the aesthetic?

I'm wondering if the stock wheels will look a bit dwarfed by the exterior sport package (might even be a BMW ploy to get us to shell out on dealer-fit options).

I've been considering getting a set of 101M wheels which are 19x8 front and 19x9.5 rear. They're pricey. Almost as much as the 166M M5 wheels, but I'm not looking to make my car look like an M5. Does any of you guys have the 101M wheels fitted to their E60? And if you do, would it be possible to see some pics?

I'd love to see what they look like when fitted to the car. If I do get the 101's I'll put the stock wheels up for sale on the board. If you want to send me a private message that's fine.

Any help appreciated.

imho The 124#s are a pretty good choice.
If you have money to spend on 19inch wheels .. ( and don#t forget they are more expensive for tyres and easily damaged etc) Then do consider getting (i) a bigger engine? (ii) Advanced air con ( see other threads on this)
(iii) Nav , because it helps resale.
Have fun and post us pice when your car comes.

Congrats on you purchase.

Where do you live Nomad?

We don't get 18" wheels on 525 sport, just 17"s

If budget is a concern, I would not even tempt myself with altering rims. But it seems to me, that you still have a little reserve left, then I would upgrade to a 530 like stu said. Since you just ordered, perhaps there is still time to change your mind. If you already have the 525 in your hands, then I would go for the 19" wheels.

Thanks for the kind remarks everyone. I'm glad to be here.

I'm actually located in London, UK and it's now too late to upgrade to a 530i.

The Europe vesrion of the sport comes with 18" as standard.

Also sorry about the delay. I'm now in Los Angeles on business (has a butt destroying 11 hour flight). Saw an E60 out here that had 20" on it. It looked nice, but I don't think I'll go over 19" whatever happens.

I accept the point on the options. Most of my friends love sat/nav and things, but I'm really doing my best to be sensible here and stick to a budget. Also, in the UK, running a car is a lot more expensive (a lot more!!) than it is in the US, so the smaller engines do quite well in resale. Funnily enough, the delaers in the uk say that the biggest losses at resale time are the options. The larger engines and fully loaded cars are generally picked up as company cars.

You guys out here in the US, and especially California, are the luckiest drivers in the world!!

A staggered setup will allow you to run more rubber in the back, obviously, but it is mainly for looks. Also going staggered will introduce some understeer, but you probably won't notice.

Like others said, get the bigger engine if you can and save up for rims later.

Oh and welcome
