What sort of animals do they have in Dubai that warrant "cow bars" as big as those on the front and rear?

Just guessing here..

Doh! Sometimes I just don't see the obvious. I never thought of camels as being the sort of animal you see as "road kill". Maybe the bars are for the human animals who steal other people's cars?

[quote name='soc_fans' date='Jan 15 2005, 08:43 AM']Why are they using 525 as a police car ? I thought Police cars are usually fast so they're able to catch up with people who is speeding.. ??

I think Dubai isn't that big...
Do they even have highways?

I don't think they have a lot to do. They doesn't even have a cage for the rear passengers.

I think you wrong there. Dubai's population is around 860,000. There are many highways as in any Gulf country. It is also becoming one of the most expensive cities in the Middle East. Also, it does rain in Dubai but not that much.

I lived there for a few years. Dubai city isn't huge, but Dubai emirate is a fair size and in the middle of six other emirates (together making up the UAE). It's like a cluster of 7 small US states.

The highway to Abu Dhabi is about 100 miles long and has four lanes each way for much of it. The speed limit is 140 kph but the cameras don't trip below 160 (100mph), so that's the speed most people do. Except high-ranking Arabs who do what they like. It's not uncommon to be doing 160 and find someone going past on the shoulder to one side of the 4 lanes at something like 200 in maybe a 911 and his mate on the other shoulder in an S Class racing him.

The highway is fenced most of the way, but, where it isn't, camels can stray on. Hit a camel and you take its legs from under it and have a close encounter with its head. Not that I think that's the reason for the cages over the lights. I don't remember ever seeing those, can't imagine what they're for.
