Talking

Hello everyone....

I'm reaching out to gauge interest in the possibility of a Group Buy on a modified E60 rear view mirror containing the V1 directional arrows and LEDs and the Lidatek LEDs.

Beast Power already sells one for the E39 M5. You can view info here: E39 M5 V1/Lidatek Mirror

While Beast Power does not offer a similar mod for the E60, I spoke with AIDesign in NY, who manufactures the aforementioned mirror for Beast Power.

AIDesign is willing to offer a discount if 5 or more mirrors are purchased in a GB. I don't have a $ discount to offer you as it depends on how many folks would be interested.

The purpose of this post is to gauge how much interest in such a GB there is.

Please post a reply if you are interested so that I can get an idea. If there are enough peeps seriously interested then I'll organize a GB under a separate topic.

Note the cost of modding 1 mirror is $795, so it's going to cost each person less than that. I just don't know how much less yet (but obviously the more members interested, the lower the price).

Caveats (a.k.a. the "Buts"... as in ... yes, but...)

1. AIDesign doesn't know if this is even possible. They need to examine an E60 rear mirror. If anyone has one they'd like to donate (e.g. wrecked car, etc.), please let me know.

Otherwise I'm going to check on prices from some dealers and see how much of a investment it would be to send one to AIDesign as a prototype.

2. It's not clear to me whether the normal $795 price includes the cost of the mirror or if that must be provided on top of the $795. If the latter it may make this beyond the means of some folks, so I'll ask.

Again, please post comments if this concept interests you.

Rudy,

Thanks. I did try and contact 2004RType, but the e-mail bounced back.

I would be interested.

Now they could have my first born if they could display the information in my HUD. Wait a minute, I better be careful what I will give away(remember Red Sox MC commercial ). On second thought, would pay to have it in my HUD.

The would get a head start on modifing the mirrors for the M5 crowd though.

Maybe they can start with the M5 mirrors? Are they the same as ours?

I'll bet one of these days someone will engineer that one -- there already is a V1 integration into the MID of older BMWs. You have to believe that someone is working on a solution for the E60's CID and/or HUD...

Not to dissuade anyone here, but I was able to find out from Daniel at Beast Power that 1) at $795, his E39 mirror is "heavily discounted" ; and 2) Beast Power's mirror cost includes the cost of the OEM mirror itself before being modded.

So... net of that leads me to believe that the $795 quote I got from AIDesign (subject to volume discounting) would not include the cost of the OEM mirror.

I have not priced out the mirror yet, but I have to believe it's at least $400-$500.

I just want to throw this out as not everyone may want to spend $1200 on a mirror.

Does anyone know what the E60 mirrors cost?

Another option is to wait for the E60 M5 mirrors to come out.

I'm just throwing out food for thought here. If we can get enough interest for a GB, it may bring the cost down considerably.

I think the E60 mirror is more like $250.
