My Ride: 2003 X5 3.0----->gone 2004 Porsche Cayenne S : Gemballa front and back bodykit, fabspeed bypass pipes, Gemballa exhaust pipes, full option, 20" factory sport design rims------>gone 2005 545i 6-spd manual---->de-badged, CDV removal, Autosolutions short shift kit, resonator removal, premium package, PDC, xenon, almost full options, hardwire V1 install ....looking for mods... 2007 550i 6-spd----> Premium package, sport package, Logic7, heated everything, Rogue Engineering SSK, CDV removal, hardwire V1 install, aFe cold air intake, Custom Magnaflow exhaust....

Hmmm....I followed the rules closely on my E60 but on my previous cars I did not break them in at all and I see no difference in performance at all. So it does not matter as much whether the car is propoerly broken in or not right??

Try it when you shut off your car (engine not running) of course. Don't use any force and push your accelarator to the bottom, when you are there try using force and there's actually a second stage of the accelarator with a little resistance. It feels like pressing a button with your foot. In that position that's the kick down and it will give your car maximum performance at that stage. Many have confuse this with the car changing to a lower gear when the car doesn't have enough power.

This information is clearly laid out in your Owner's Manual, but the basic restrictions, for the first 1200 miles are:

1) Do not exceed 4500 RPM
2) Do not exceed 100 mph
3) Change speed often
4) Avoid hard braking

Varying your engine speed and avoiding hard braking are especially important during the break-in period.

Here in New York, USA...it is almost impossible to exceed 100MPH. I have an automatic tranny so it is not often that I exceed 4500RPM. Maybe 2 or 3 per year

And be progressive with gas throttle : push harder & harder to be flat out just at the correct milleage. I mean not 3000 rpm until 1200 miles, and then suddenly 5000 rpm !

This Just In. The NY Times says that the Supreme Court says the cops can run you off the road for speeding. Well, not precisely, but close enough. So watchit or boom, into Sheepshead Bay Basin you go.

I'm a steady 75 to 85 mph guy . Occasionally I'll go a little faster but very rare, unless i'm driving to Virginia.

Just drive it like you stole it, maintain it properly. These cars are made to be driven hard; and there's a difference between hard and beaten IMO.

I think it's okay to run the car hard. But there's a difference between running it hard and abusing it. If the car is leased, it may make a difference on how one drives his/her car. I own my cars and try to enjoy driving (with an occasional speed run) them but I expect them to last as well. Huge out of warranty repair costs are not high on my favorites list.
