If you have NAV you can have your dealer add the MP3 function, however if your car is an early model they're going to putup a fight because it's not officially supported by BMW.

I just wanted to post a note here that I've updated 2 of the settings in the original posting above. First I changed the burn speed from 24x to 8x which is probably the slowest speed most burner programs have now. The slower, the better, less room for errors.

Second, and more importantly, I think the skipping and randomly ending songs happen with VBR (variable bit rate) MP3's which I had some of so I advise to downloaded fixed bit rate MP3's at 192 Kbps. I re-downloaded my VBR MP3's as fixed if I could find them available and converted the others.

Also in terms of bitrates, I read a post on the forum saying that the MP3 player does not officially support bitrates over 192 Kbps, although they do play, they might cause the computer to get confused, hence skip part of a song or skip to the next song entirely. Again I had a few songs at 256 Kbps, even 320 Kbps, which I re-downloaded at 192 Kbps.

The vast majority of my MP3's are now 192 Kbps. I have a few 128's for which I'll try to find 192 Kbps bitrate copies of but I don't think I'll notice the difference. In any event I just wanted to pass this info on to you all. I don't know if its 100% accurate but it makes sense to me atleast.

Thanx Lomag I'm gonna bring my car in to have them MP3 it. Do you know the cost of this upgrade?

Hello Everyone, this is my first post I just got my 530. I followed these exact instructions with Nero 7 and my CD will not Play the CD option on the Menu will stay grayed out.

Normal Data CD-ROM (ISO)
No Multisession
Data Mode 1
File System ISO 9660:1999 (this is a KEY setting)
File Name Length Max 207 chars (will automaticly set when you select the file system above)
Burn Speed 8x -- don't burn your CD's at max speed because there's more room for error
Disc-at-Once write method
Make sure to check off "Finalize CD" before burning

I have tried copying a regular CD to the same media and it played in the CD player (So its not the media). Any suggestions??

Thanks!

Your car is probably one of the earlier models which doesn't officially support MP3 playback so you'll need to ask your dealer to enable it, but, they'll putup a fight!

all my settigns at @ 192 kbs and never at VBR and still pre-mature skip to the next song even when driving on the motorway with smooth surface. And the skip does not always happen at the same point in the song.
I'll try the 8x burn settings to see if this may help.

Even now with Nero 7.0, the French characters such as ? ? ? ? etc are not liked and the player refuses to play such a song. For example, the word "Eternit?" is displayed as "Eternit⌂".

"Incroyable mais vrais"

any French here on the forum with the same experience?

Ooh, this is interesting! I'm just about to take delivery of my 520d SE E60, so is this ready to play MP3's or do I need the Dealer mod? Sat Nav is NOT fitted to the car. Thanks for any info!

As people have asked before, will this method allow the titles to show on non-NAV e60's?

I just found out today after 7 whole months that I can play MP3's in my car. I guess the 06 E60's updated to the newest softwares.
