How come the HUD display disappears if I'm wearing

My Ride: Oct 2007 LCI e61 530d Touring. Auto, Deep Sea Blue, Natural Brown Leather, Comfort Seats, Panoramic Glass Sunroof, Professional Navigation, USB Audio, Manual Side Blinds

Interestingly enough - I can see the IDrive screen fine with my polarised sunglasses, but when I test drove an Audi A6, I couldn't see its equivalent!

It depends on the orientation of the polarisation. There is vertial and horizontal. That is why if you have polarised sunglasses and can't see the HUD, if you take them off and rotate 90 degrees, it appears. Unfortunately sunglasses don't tend to advertise which orientation the polarisation is, and I am not sure which one of the two works with HUD. I had to buy new sunglasses when I took delivery of the new E60 - but that wasn't such a bad thing, I needed new ones anyway. The bad news was that my wife came shopping with me. "Oooh, those Prada ones are nice" she said. Mine - ?95. Hers - ?185. MEH !!
