I remember then when navigation for the E60 came out here in America, i called my dealer and asked if i could get it installed in my car. they said no. At that time i thought that maybe since its new they don't know. So are you 100% sure that E60's made like October 2003 or later w/o nav can get it retrofitted? Mine was made in December of 2003. Would it be best if I call BMW and give them my VIN and ask them?

Can't hurt to call them, may even want to call a different dealer just for verification.

I have the same dilema. My 2004 E60 was built Nov 2003. I asked Stevens Creek BMW here in San Jose, CA and they said it was impossible to install the NAV if it wasn't produced "Nav-ready".

However, talking to a BMW dealership in San Mateo, CA...they mentioned that it might be possible but very expensive.. like $5k because they have to redo wiring and take apart the dash...

Anyone have better luck?

^^^^If it costs $5k, you might want to trade in your car for a new one.

I was told the same thing, but check your window sticker for "Navigation Prep", which mine did have (it also has the "voice" button near the I drive). My dealer insisted it was impossible, despite me showing them the window sticker. He said since there was "no charge" next to the nav. ready option on the window sticker, it wasn't there. I knew he was wrong. I called BMW NA, and had the rep look up my vin number. He instantly assured me that, yes., there has been a retro fit kit available since July '04, and all the dealers should have the tech bulletin on installation. Bulletin number is 841004.

The other posts are correct, if you don't have 6UA, then it wasn't "prepped". But, my tech at the dealership said I didn't have any prep when he printed out the options list for my car, since it's not listed in the standard code like the other options. So, call BMW NA to make sure.

The kit is 1800, but the installation will be FREE until May 05, covered by BMW warranty.

Let me know if you have any luck.

Ryan

Anyone have a copy of that bulletin?

If I didnt chose the NAV option when ordered and it was availabe can it still be retrofitted or is this retrofit only available to those who couldnt get NAV because it wasnt availabe yet.

ANd I cant seem to find any reference to 6UA on my window sticker or anywhere on my car. what is 6UA?

I have a copy somewhere and I will scan it to you if I can find it. What I did was call my dealer's parts dept. and give them my VIN #. Parts man told me I had the option 6UA which is pre-wiring for CCC. It was not listed on my window sticker. I ordered the Nav almost a month ago and part of it is back ordered. The bulletin, dated July 2004 is SI B 84 10 04

I don't think HUD is available as a retrofit.? The entire dashboard would have to be replaced I think.

My two cents on after-market HUD - Just heard from a friend that he's going to get HUD on his Mustang for around 160 bucks. It's not the fancy-schmancy, built in BMW type, but something that connects and has a small projector that just sits on top of the dash and projects basic info onto the windshiled - a-la HUD.

I can find out more about it, especially if it can be installed in any car if anyone is interested.

Santiago.
