2012 first year 2.8 528i
Hello All, New to forum and just was wondering if anyone has heard of issues with first year 2.8 engines? I have a BMW tech friend that told me ,having issues with plastic oil filter housing warping, and timing belt / pump? breaking, allowing oil in coolant or vise a versa?
Thanks in advance and love the site..

The guys at my dealer told me they did a lot of thermostats early on, but that seems to have subsided. other than that they haven't had any widespread issues with any particular component on the car. N20 is one hot-running engine though, so I won't be surprised to see heat related component failure as the cars age. Also, BMW has not used timing belts on its engines since 1993 with the last of the E30 cabrios. The widespread timing chain failure applies to the N63 V8, I haven't heard about a similar problem on the N20 four cylinder.
