M5 LSD in our e61 xi??
I have an opportunity to buy a working condition e60 M5 LSD pumpkin for super cheap. Was wondering if any of you guys out there have heard or tried it before. I know euro M5 wagon most likely have LSD equipped. Any input big or small would really help. Thanks

Can't say I have read about anyone doing it here, but if you haven't already, a good place to start would be checking out the part numbers and diagrams on RealOEM perhaps? Props to you!

You might have to check on gear ratios as you are moving a RWD diff to an AWD car. From previous experience (not the x-drive), the rear diff and front diff are related based on the drive system.

It has been done before and works. The FD will change also based on the M5 dif, I don't believe the front differential has a play here in the gear ratios though.
The Wagons has a 3.47 FD, keep in mind based on the M5 miles the dif could be worn out as they do get. If you really want to have a LSD installed I would personally look at MFactory before going with a stock diff, that of course you are only getting the M5 dif for a few $$$. The Mfactory will cost you around 1k.

You may also need the M5 drive shafts if the bolt circle diameter is different. While you're at it, get the whole M5 rear suspension arms, hubs, and everything. It's much cheaper than you think. I have several sets if you are interested and makes using the M5 calipers on the rear quite simple.
The rear cradle for the E61 M5 is different as well, at least by part number. Curiously, the E61 M5 cradle shares the same part number with the E60 M5 6MT. Not sure why yet, haven't gotten my hands on one.
