Hello,
I've bought an iPOD 20GB today and was wondering if theres already an iPOD interface on the 2006 E61.
I have NavPro, so playing Mp3's on a cd won't be a problem?
If there isn't an ipod interface on the 2006 model, i have to play my iPOD through the AUX , right?

There is an IPOD device made by Seimens VDO for the e60's i-drive system. I saw it at the IAA Show in Frankfurt last week. Currently, Seimens is undergoing negotiations and they do not know if it will be offered as an aftermarket or BMW accessory. Their representative showed me how the system works and it is fully integrated into the i-drive. It is awesome and has made me hold off on getting the aux input installed. The adaptor includes a cradle for the i-POD and plugs into the vehicles MOST system. BMW will need to do a software upgrade for full integration. It will not be part of a CIP, just an individual programming option.

Was this unit a prototype or an actual product for sale?? Were you able to find out where it plugs into the MOST system?? Did you get any feel as to why it may not be supported by BMW?? My fear is that you have it installed and then run into a conflict with the car software now or part of a future update.? Please post any further details that you may have.

I cannot agree with you in full: BMW was not made for Ipods...so it is not a shame
secondly Ipod is not the only far NOT the best system you can have, I have also Archos and others even for DVX-POD and they have remotes, so I use the Idrive to set it AUX-IN and then never more.

ATS77, may I remind you on the fact that BMW have promissed iPod for their cars since 2003/2004. Look at what the competition brings on iPod compatibility.
But I like to go a bit further: you and I would benefit from a dutch iDrive system in our cars. Mine is from june 2004 and is still not retrofitable with dutch language being standard with all dutch specced cars since march 2005. this is crazy and unacceptable !!

Not very high tech and almost extinct. But serves me well to do off air recording at home of programs aired at night or weekends and play back on my work commute. Much easier to do unattended recording in this manner than using an MP3 device although the one I have does record direct from FM if I need to.Its not all about iPods
