It appears that in the US only a 525iT and a 545iT will be offered, with March 2004 start of production. There are currently no plans for an AWD Touring model. No solid info yet on European Delivery.

I am a bit pussled about the low amount of information that is available re the touring version of the new 5-series. The e60 was "out of the box" for quite some time before the official press release, but this does not seem to apply to the e61. Is it possible that BMW have kept the e61 secret, the same way as with the X3, and that we will not be able to get much more information before an official press release?

If the final car looks like that, there is no reason to go for the sedan Do you have any information about how big the load are will be? The initial reports I saw was that the touring would be significantly bigger than the E39, but the last I heard was that it was still going to be rather small. There should be room for improvements since the E39 is only marginally larger than the E46....

may have been mentioned before...but it does state that...
The 2004 5-Series Touring will be powered by 2.7-litre and 3.0-litre six-cylinder units with FSI direct injection technology. The more powerful version will be coming with 3.5- and 4.5-litre V8s taken from the 735 and 745i. The return of four-cylinder engines for the five-series will be limited to the saloon, of which entry-level models will be available with a 2.2-litre four-pot. Before new diesel engines will be ready, the Touring and the saloon will be offered with 2.0-, 2.5- and 3.0-litre oil-burners from the existing range
not sure though if the contents are relv to the US market or europe only.

I can not really see why BMW would need to update the 3.0d? This is the new engine from the E65 already? According to other rumours, the 2.5d would be updated however and the reason that neither the 2.5d nor the 2.0d are on the market yet are limitations in the capacity of the factory that produces these engines.
