Convert Automatic Tailgate to Manual?

My Ride: 2007 530xiT
check 'assist' strut
my power tailgate would open, but would drop 12-18 inches in short order. It turned out to be the 'assist' strut on the right side. I popped off the old one, popped on the new one, and it now works fine.

e61 Tailgate
Mr. Himmelberger-
Just wondering if you successfully converted your e61 tailgate from auto to manual. Never could stand the auto tailgate, and now it has failed (as anticipated), giving me an excuse for conversion.
