My Ride: 525i SE Touring
Default Brake Sensor

Hi all,

I have a E61 525i and am planning on changing the front disks and pads. Can anybody tell me how many brake sensors I need ? Is it one for the front or one on each wheel ?

Many Thanks,

BigMoose

I think the best thing for you to do is to physically check how many your car currently has. I've often read there's one per wheel, but when I changed my rotors (@80K miles) I realized my car only had one in the front and one in the rear. Perhaps something the previous owner did, or the dealer when they replaced the rotors and pads.

BMWs usually have one in front, one in rear. But check, you don't want to go back and have to do them again if you get too few or pay for too many.

Yes, usually one per axle. Check RealOEM for the parts.

There is a brake sensor on the left front caliper and then one on the right rear caliper. When you replace the pads you should also replace the sensor for the corresponding axle. The set of Brembo rear pads I bought from Amazon came with one replacement sensor but they can also be purchased online for under $10.
