I want to get a set of cross bars and bike rack for my 08 535XIT.

Should I get BMW cross bar or another brand? I would like to quickly remove the bars when not using them is that possible?

Any suggestions on a roof bike rack?

The newest Thule bars that came out a month ago called Aeroblade - if you believe their marketing - are supposed to be amazingly quiet. Their rep was telling me on the phone also that there's another advantage to them over the square bars that because there's no feet that wrap around the bar, you get more usable bar length then. I've yet to research them more and buy a set so don't have first hand experience. He was telling me though that very few accessories won't fit these bars, so that's a non issue.

The bimmer cross bars are not easy to remove. They come with a torque wrench that you use to screw the clamp on to the roof rail, so not a simple clip/latch. Attachments are easy to take on and off, the bars themselves, not so much. They are oval tho, so not too noisy if left on.

As others have mentionned Thule aeroblades or Whispbar (Yakima now) are two excellent options. I have the older square Thule bars and they are awfull without the Cargo Box.

Are Thule aeroblades or Whispbar (Yakima now) better than the oem BMW cross bars?

At $180 the BMW bars are cheaper.
