fault is in pressure switch , water ingress not obvious . must remove wiper , dry out thoroughly especially interface between wires and printed circuit membrane and seal with silicone sealant on both sides of gasket and switch lid . There is no need for a new switch they are well made just the water problem
TO OPEN GLASS REAR TAILGATE
the wires from this switch are embedded in glass and are brown and brown with blue stripe (1.3mm od) they can be seen under spoiler near diversity unit . Remove drivers side (uk)speaker housing and unscrew bracket holding pair of wire looms the loom on inside contains the mentioned switch wires short these to open glass and if a short fault cut one wire . THIS WORKS and will save hours work on correct path . I have examined all wire looms and they are in great condition . Digressing slightly ,under the spoiler BMW have placed the water pipe for rear screen wash this repeatedly blows off in frost covering all sensitive parts with water NICE ONE .Hope this saves someone hours of searching
