Default USB retrofit (kind of)

Hello. I have an 07 530i that I retrofitted nav into from an 08, so basically I have an LCI CCC in a pre LCI car. My understanding is tha the LCI cars came with USB input in the center console, so do I just need the correct cable hooked to the appropriate plug in the back of my LCI CCC? The next question probably should have been first, which is, with USB can I just plug a flash drive loaded with music in and access from idrive? Thanks.

CCC is ok as long as you install MULF, OEM USB port with proper coding

I like this answer better. Isn't MULF the Bluetooth phone module? If so, my car has Bluetooth already.

Nope you need to get the MULF High Basis 84109200822, USB hub 84109123739, USB port and lots of wiring + plus coding

So it sounds like I would be much better off just putting the ipod interface in and using an old ipod for music. Thanks for the info.

i researched this mod a while back for my 07 E61 and came to the same part list as richie has mentioned. it's really not as bad as it sounds though. all of the components can be readily found on ebay. I'm not sure if the USB hub is an absolute requirement or not.

i ended up getting a $20 bluetooth streaming unit and hooking it up to my aux port so that I can wirelessly stream my itunes library from my phone

That would work, but I would prefer to be able to control it from Idrive. Kids use the aux cord now which is fine, but not having to plug in, or mess with my phone while driving is my goal. I had the ipod interface on my 545 and it worked pretty good. Can't believe they are still going for well over $100.00 though.
